Cardio exercises

VeryWellFit says: "Common cardio exercises are brisk walking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing, and cross-country skiing. In the gym, cardio machines include the treadmill, elliptical trainer, stationary cycle, stepping machine, rowing machine, and ski trainer." [ID: cardio01]

Instructions

Find a cardio strategy that you like...smile and go get it!

Here are three possible cardio approaches:

  1. No cardio - If you really dislike cardio, then skip it. You don't want to make your time at the gym unpleasant. But...let's agree to try something different every once in a while. While experimenting, you might find a cardio option that you enjoy.
  2. One goto cardio - If you really love a particular cardio exercise, then roll with it. But every once in a while, mix it up. Try a new cardio option and see if you like it.
  3. Cardio variety fan - Great! Switching between cardio options keeps your mind and body stimulated.

I like the treadmill for a basic warmup and cool-down exercise.

My favorite machine for a strong cardio workout is the StairMaster. It provides great intensity with low impact on joints and other body parts. Here's some stairs advice from VeryWellFit, www.verywellfit.com/30-minute-stairmaster-workout-6831333.

If your gym has a rowing machine, then try it out. Rowing is a nice cardio alternative because it relies more on your arms than your legs.

Running and walking outside is great cardio and is good for our mental fitness.

Article: "How Many Calories Do You Burn Walking Per Mile?" by VeryWellFit, www.verywellfit.com/walking-calories-burned-by-miles-3887154

  • "A good rule of thumb is that 180-pound person will burn about 100 calories when walking one mile and a 120-pound person will burn 65 calories walking one mile."
  • "...a mile is an average of 2,000 to 2,400 steps, depending on your height and stride length."
  • Scroll down to find the article's "calorie counter". Enter your activity/exercise, duration, and weight, and the calorie calculator will return its calorie estimate.
