Exercises

First time: Follow along with the video

This is a very mellow 10 minute session. I list the steps below. Bah, it's much better to skip these steps and just follow along with the video. (smile)

  • Start position: Sit with your legs crossed, on a blanket or pillow to raise your hips and make it more comfortable (video time=0:40)
  • Relax - Close your eyes and sit up as tall as you can (1:10)
  • Deep breaths - Breath in through the nose, out through the mouth (2:15)
  • Mindful - Be aware of your breathing (3:20)
  • Neck/back stretch - Bring your hands together and up toward your chest, and drop chin to chest (3:50)
  • Stretch - Bring fingertips to your side, then reach arms up and over your head, inhale and reach up, exhale and bring your arms down (5:30)
  • Tabletop position - Get on all fours, spread fingertips wide, allow weight of your body to collapse down, then raise your belly up extended you back, looking forward (6:50)
  • Cow pose - Drop belly, look forward, exhale round the spine bring your chin to chest, return and repeat (8:30)
  • Front low lunge - Extend the right leg and stretch, step right foot forward, sit up and reach your left hand up, bring right leg back...repeat with the left leg (9:15)
  • Extended Child's Pose - Back on all fours, walk knees out wide and bring toes together, lean all the way back on hips, take three deep breaths in this final pose (10:40)

Second time (and beyond): Keep practicing with the video until you don't need it

I chose this video as a "first" yoga workout because it is slow and simple. I understand why Yoga with Adriene is so popular; she does a great job leading the workout. Also, the production values of the video are outstanding.
